When a device has been reset and is showing the initial setup screens, it can be difficult to know which IMEI is IMEI 1 and which is IMEI 2.
This guide explains how to find and understand both IMEIs on iPhone and Samsung phones that have been reset.
What Is an IMEI?
An IMEI is the unique identity number for each mobile network slot on a device.
Dual-SIM devices have two IMEIs:
IMEI 1 – linked to SIM slot 1 (primary)
IMEI 2 – linked to SIM slot 2 (secondary or eSIM)
On reset devices, both IMEIs are still visible.
Finding IMEI 1 and IMEI 2 on a Reset iPhone
1. On the “Hello” Setup Screen
Turn the iPhone on. When you see the Hello / Welcome screen, tap the small “i” icon in the bottom-right corner. A device information panel will appear showing: IMEI (this is IMEI 1) IMEI 2 Serial Number
IMEI 1 is always the first IMEI shown and is labelled simply IMEI. IMEI 2 appears directly underneath.
